We have limited stock of this watch, because it belongs to a small batch that was made by the factory as a throwback tribute.
In a world of finicky smart watches, the charm and reliability of a good old-fashioned mechanical watch remains timeless.
The Shanghai Watch company is China’s first watch factory, that also produced its first mechanical watch. In 1955, the country’s watch industry got together to develop an entirely Chinese-made watch, from end-to-end. Prior to that, watch makers in China were mainly assemblers, taking imported parts and fitting them together.
This throwback model is a tribute to the original watches that showed up on the wrists of Chinese politicians and aspiring new business owners. The logo on its face is the original Shanghai Watch logo: the word Shanghai, stylized into a block.
And just like the originals that came out of the factory, this model relies on a spring-wound mechanism. That means it requires no batteries; just wind it up once a day and off you go.
The watch has a 17-jewel movement, is splash-resistant (but not waterproof, so don’t shower with it), and comes with a classic real leather strap that goes effortlessly from day to night.
This model measures 34mm across its dial, making it small enough for most women to wear as well.
